Peace with oneself

Last weekend i was trying to read a book of my interest and i was unable to concentrate, and i kept on asking myself why am i not able to focus, though i have read many books in past weeks but then when a book of my special interest came, i was unable to concentrate.
Later i realised because i was not at peace ,i was distracted , i was thinking of the futute rime when i shall have read the book and learnt all the theory inside it.
You see when do dwell in past, or in future but not in present, you are not at peace with yourself.
There is a famous dialogue in the movie kung fu panda in which master Shifu tells his disciple Po " Everything is possible when you have inner peace."
Dr. Victor E Frankl in his famous book " Man`s search for meaning writes-

Don't aim at success. The more you aim at it and make it a target, the more you are going to miss it. For success, like happiness, cannot be pursued; it must ensue, and it only does so as the unintended side effect of one's personal dedication to a cause greater than oneself or as the by-product of one's surrender to a person other than oneself. Happiness must happen, and the same holds for success: you have to let it happen by not caring about it. I want you to listen to what your conscience commands you to do and go on to carry it out to the best of your knowledge. Then you will live to see that in the long-run—in the long-run, I say!—success will follow you precisely because you had forgotten to think about it”

They say, thoughts travel faster than light, it is human condition to be restless, our mind is wired in such a manner but the silver lining is that we can work onto it and develop our concentration if we work upon it.
Aristotle said " We are what we repeatedly do, excellence thus is not an act, but a habit. "
What we are required to do here  is to develop the positive habits which can help us to be at peace with ourselves. The first and foremost thing is to be self aware,  self awareness helps us in knowing what we want, and what not, and when we know what we want , we do not do what we do not want.
Alfred Lord Tennyson said "Self-Knowledge, self -control, self-reverence; these three alone lead one to sovereign power"
Self awareness and self- control are complementary traits, the question now is how to develop self awareness, which perhaps can solve all our life problems like panacea. There are many thinks like meditation, concentration exercises, reading books etc but the most important of all is i believe is to do what you love to do, in that case you do not need to focus. Focus will come as a by-product of your love, commitment to your work.
Confucius said " Choose a job you love and you will never have to  work a day in life. "In the end , always remember the words of wisdom by Blaise Pascal "All human unhappiness comes from one single thing; not knowing how to remain at rest in a room."

Always speak less.

In 1825, a new Czar, Nicholas 1 ascended the Russian throne. A rebellion instantaneously broke out (the Decembrist Revolt). Brutally crushing the revolt, Nicholas 1 sentenced one of its leaders Kondraty Ryleyev, to death. On the day of the execution, Ryleyev stood on the gallows, the noose around his neck. The trapdoor opened but -as Ryleyev dangled, the rope broke, dashing him to the ground. At those times, events like these were considered to be  heavenly will and person is usually pardoned. As Ryleyev got to his feet, bruised and dirtied but believing his neck had been saved he called out to the crowd, "You see, in Russia, they don`t even know how to do anything propery, not even how to make rope!"
A messenger immediately went to the Winter palace and the news of failed hanging spread. Vexed by this, Nicholas 1 nevertheless began to sign the pardon. But then: " Did Ryleyev said anything about the miracle ? " asked the Czar and the messenger replied " he said that in Russia they do not even know how to make rope."
"In that case" the Czar said, "Let us prove the contrary," and he tore up the pardon. Next day Ryleyev was hanged and this time the rope did not break.
Lesson to be learned here is- Once the words are out, you can not take them back. Keep them under conrol. Be particularly careful with sarcasm:The momentary satisfaction you gain with your biting words will be outweighed by the price you pay.
Remember the quotes by wise men-
Better to remain silent and be thought as a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt.
Abraham Lincoln
A slip of your foot you may soon recover, but a slip of your tongue you may never get over.Benjamin Franklin
